Sludge Drying

Sludge Drying

Disposal of all waste sludge, especially wastewater treatment sludge, is a major problem in local administrations and waste-producing companies. The fact that industrial wastewater sludge is largely classified as hazardous waste brings great responsibilities to companies. Also, it is not possible both economically, technologically, and environmentally for each local government and/or industrial facility to establish a drying facility for their wastewater treatment sludge and waste sludge within the facility.

The sludge drying activity is an environmentally friendly organization that has eliminated a great deficiency regionally. Thus, uncontrolled disposal of all waste sludge, especially wastewater treatment plant sludge, will be largely prevented and will be used as an alternative fuel in cement factories. As much as the calorific value of the dry sludge used, the main fuel used by cement factories will be reduced and the use of natural resources will not be reduced. Also, since alternative fuels are used, emissions from the burning of fossil fuels have been reduced and a beneficial improvement has been achieved in terms of air quality. It is of great importance to use the drying of the sludge as a raw material or an additional fuel source in cement factories

First of all, the sludge must be pre-treated and dewatered to a certain extent so that the operating conditions of these facilities are not affected. Using wastes as alternative fuels is a technically sound solution because the organic parts of the wastes will be destroyed as a result of burning. Cement dryers are ideal facilities where alternative fuels can be utilized and burned in a safe environment. Treatment sludges can't have calorific value without being subjected to the drying process. To be flammable, it must be dried at a rate of 90-98%.
